PID (Proportional-plus-Integral-plus-Derivative) is a popular control method extensively used in an industrial set up. The advantages of a PID controller include its simple structure along with robust performance. One the performance measure for a system has been chosen, the next task is to determine a control function that minimizes this criterion. Two methodes of a accomplishing the minimization are the minimum principle of Pontryagin and the methode of dynamic programing.
