Abstract : Abstract - A load of vital historical document gatherings are lying quiescent in National libraries that needs to conserved in digital form. The problem of information retrieval from historical handwritten scripts is challenging task due to its variableness in writing styles. Retrieval of relevant information from these scanned historical document images would ideally necessitate an efficient Keyword spotting system which can be replaced with recognition systems. We propose a cluster based keyword spotting system in which agglomerative hierarchical clustering techniques are used for matching the handwritten word images. The technique is demonstrated using historical handwritten Devanagari document images. Compared to prior results, the proposed method gives favorable results.
